Free your people from Plato’s ‘cave’

by on
in Office Communication,Workplace Communication

In The Republic, Plato describes a group of prisoners who had been chained in a cave for so long that they believed the shadows that played across its back wall were reality.

That sounds outlandish, but is it?

If your people spend all their time dealing with meetings and internal communication, serious distortions in their reality can set in.

Start them thinking instead about what your customers want, what problems your vendors are having, the latest practices at other firms and other externals.

Encourage people to leave their desks and delve into the outside world. It’s the only way to make sure that their perspectives and skills remain grounded in reality.
