Scores of organizations are looking for the next big thing. But in a survey of 247 senior executives, only 50% believe their organizations are “top in class” in innovation.
How can you drive higher levels of innovation? For starters, look toward experts in the field, such as Google, which has made innovation an organization-wide competency.
Marissa Mayer, director of Google’s Consumer Web Products, shared her formula for building an innovative culture:
- Provide “office hours” when any employee can pitch new ideas.
- Create an “idea listserv” where anyone can suggest or comment on ideas.
- Take risks and launch products.
- Stay in touch with employees, no matter how many.
