Emerson’s paean to blessings uncounted

in Best-Practices Leadership,Leaders & Managers

In his essay “Nature,” American poet and philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson reminds us that we’re surrounded by awe-inspiring beauty every day, yet we rarely take time to recognize and appreciate it.

Great leaders, in contrast, do take the time to notice and appreciate wonders that most people take for granted. That’s a leadership philosophy you can apply daily. Here’s how:

1. Praise the efforts of someone in your organization who takes extraordinary care with what he or she does.

2. Notice what makes your products or services extraordinary, so that you can build upon their strengths.

3. Notice and praise the spirit and positive qualities of your team.

Your ability to look, notice and offer appreciation can make you stand out from the crowd. Added benefit: It makes every day much more interesting and rewarding.
