Q. Can an employee waive coverage under workers’ comp laws?

A. Generally, no. Workers who qualify as independent contractors can sign agreements acknowledging that they are not covered employees. Also, certain corporate officers and shareholders can waive coverage. Otherwise, coverage is mandatory.
