Some employees of Hypertherm in Hanover, N.H., are earning a trio of bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees—all on the company dime.
And the organization has set a goal to send 3% of its employees to school at all times.
The firm, which designs and manufactures metal-cutting systems, pays tuition for employees who have worked there for at least a year and enroll at accredited universities. The firm places no limits on how many classes an employee may take or where the school is located as long as the employee can make it to work.
The company started paying employee tuitions 10 years ago. Thirty-nine have graduated, and 21 currently are enrolled in degree programs. Hypertherm has 1,086 employees worldwide, including 944 in New Hampshire.
The company budgets 3.1% of its annual—about $1.4 million—for continuing education, including the degree program, seminars, conferences and other training, said Kelly Doyle, analyst.
