You may already hook up new hires with “buddies,” experienced employees who can help them adjust to their new surroundings. But there’s a better way to make newcomers feel welcome: Give them two buddies. Assign one seasoned pro to act as the day-to-day project manager who gives advice on how to get the actual work done most effectively. Assign another manager to offer career guidance. This buddy can serve as a sounding board to help plot the new hire’s training needs, promotional opportunities and approach to office politics.
