Salary survey: soft skills still in demand — Business Management Daily: Free Reports on Human Resources, Employment Law, Office Management, Office Communication, Office Technology and Small Business Tax Business Management Daily
Starting salaries for administrative positions will inch up slightly in 2008, led by starting salaries for senior executive assistants, human resources assistants and “presentation specialists.” That’s the prediction of OfficeTeam in its annual salary survey.
Overall, OfficeTeam says, soft skills are still in hot demand: Two-thirds of HR managers say that they’d hire an admin with good soft skills whose technical skills were lacking.
But tech skills can be a strong selling point for relatively green admins. OfficeTeam found that employers frequently look for proficiency in Access and PowerPoint, as well as experience with emerging applications, such as Microsoft Office 2007, contact management and personnel software.
