Try internal blogs to boost productivity

When publisher Ziff Davis encouraged its employees to communicate about shared projects on internal blogs rather than e-mail, the results were astonishing.

“We used to have more than 100 group e-mails per day,” says general manager Tom Jessiman. “Now it’s rarely one per week. We’ve saved a month in a four-month software project and everyone is on the same page.”

Project-centered blogs offer one option for making internal communications more efficient, but try using them to meet these needs, too:
  • CEO blog where you can update people on a timely basis.

  • Departmental bulletin boards.

  • Company news centers.

  • Brainstorming whiteboards.

  • Personal bulletin boards where employees can share nonwork-related information.
