‘Stay bonuses’ aren’t just for top execs anymore

More companies now offer retention bonuses to rank-and-file workers, too, according to surveys by consultants WorldatWork and Lee Hecht Harrison. Example: A ceramic-parts manufacturer offered all its 100 employees a $1,000 yearly bonus to stay during a two-year hiring freeze. Workers at some factories receive pay to remain during shutdowns or product-line discontinuations.
