Starting June 27, if you set up a charitable remainder trust (CRT), you'll need to jump through new IRS hoops. To avoid potential conflicts with the state laws protecting inheritances of surviving spouses, you must obtain a written waiver from your "better half" to preserve the trust's tax benefits. Otherwise, your current tax deduction goes down the drain. We'll discuss the issue further in an upcoming special report on charitable trusts.
