Drugmaker catches disco fever

Allegan–based drugmaker Perrigo Corp. is reaching out to potential hires with the “Perrigo Dancing Scientists,” a slick YouTube music video of scientists in lab coats busting moves.

The video, which drew almost 13,000 views in the month following its Memorial Day weekend posting, is designed to show job hunters that Perrigo is a hip, fun place to work.

The YouTube spot is just one part of a drive to attract talent from New Jersey, Philadelphia and the West Coast, the hubs of the pharmaceutical industry. The company also is paying for company recruiters and managers to open accounts on web social networking sites such as MySpace and LinkedIn. The goal: to communicate with prospective job candidates.

“Over the last couple of years, we have been working on initiatives to get the Perrigo name out there,” said Kim Shriver, the company’s talent acquisition manager. “We’ve been thinking about a different audience.”

The video has been so successful, the company is already planning a sequel. “I think we have gotten such a buzz, we have to follow up,” Shriver said.
