Religious accommodationsA new wave of alleged religious discrimination appears to be building.

Religious discrimination charges filed with the EEOC spiked after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. Before then, they constituted less than 2.6% of all charges. Since 9/11, the rate has remained above 3%, reaching as high as 4.2% in 2011.  

During the 2016 campaign, President Trump repeatedly invoked mass shootings in San Bernadino, Calif., and Orlando, Fla., when calling for a ban on Muslims entering the country. Since winning, he has taken a more conciliatory tone. However, the days following the election saw a significant uptick in hate crimes. The Southern Poverty Law Center documented 867 hate crimes in the first half of November 2016 alone.

Department of Justice statistics show that hate crimes against Muslim Americans increased 67% from 2014 to 2015.

Almost inevitably anti-Muslim sentiments will spill over into the workplace.
