Hamdi Ulukaya, the founder and CEO of yogurt producer Chobani, has announced that the New Berlin, N.Y.-based company is now offering six weeks of paid parental leave to all of its employees. Both mothers and fathers are eligible for the leave.
Ulukaya told Secretary of Labor Thomas Perez in a letter that he realized when his son was born how important those early days are to both infants and their parents. After conferring with histeam, Ulukaya unveiled the paid leave plan.
All employees—both hourly and salaried—are eligible for paid parental leave.
Chobani management has also pledged to ensure that employees have no fear that taking the leave will affect their careers at Chobani.
Chobani is the best-selling yogurt brand in the U.S. Ulukaya started the company in 2007 after buying a New Berlin dairy plant that Kraft Foods had closed in 2005. In April 2016, Ulukaya gave company stock to all full-time employees, in some employees’ cases an ownership stake worth more than $1 million.
