Corporate America’s highest-ranking HR executives earn significantly less than their C-Suite peers, according to a new study by the Chief Executive Group business research firm.

Chief HR officers reported median compensation—salary plus bonuses—totaling $122,000. That’s lower than the highest ranking executives in charge of technology ($147,000), engineering ($165,000) and marketing ($175,000). Chief sales officers earned the most: $190,000.
