When someone from LinkedIn asks you to get coffee and talk about his new sales venture or business idea, it’s easy to write off the request because you’re too busy. But making the effort to oblige can benefit you, too, writes Wealthsimple CMO Jason Goldlist.
First, before you go out for coffee, ask if he agrees to help you in a small way. By doing this, you get rid of the people who are looking for some sort of selfish gain, and you’re left with those who are serious about having a discussion. These people can help you by giving you feedback or connecting you to important people they know.
Discussions like this can be more productive and valuable because the other person has taken time to give you feedback. In addition, you help build a reputation as someone who’s willing to help others.
