Time to get the lead out? Or to be accurate, the graphite. According to Jason Chen, writing in Bloomberg Businessweek, vintage pencils are gaining traction as the preferred writing instrument of those who just might be tired of the pen and PC and want the feel of a well-balanced wooden writing tool.
One online pencil seller, Caroline Weaver of CW Pencil Enterprise, told Chen that she was surprised how fast her business has taken off as she scrambles to fill orders. She recently opened a walk-in shop in New York City selling pencils and other supplies.
The allure could be the old-fashioned simplicity that comes with a scent.
Vintage pencils run from about 30 cents to several dollars apiece.
