The IRS is testing out an appointment system at 10 of its largest walk-in centers around the country. (Internal News Release IR-2015-30, 2/18/15) It hopes that this approach will alleviate long wait times. Currently, at most IRS offices there are no guarantees when or if a taxpayer will receive assistance. Help is provided on a first-come, first-served basis. The initial test locations for appointments are: Atlanta, Ga.; Austin, Texas; Birmingham, Ala.; Chicago, Ill.; Denver, Colo.; Fresno, Calif.; Hartford, Conn.; Plantation, Fla.; San Antonio, Texas; and Seattle, Wash.

Check www.irs.gov for days and hours as well as services offered at the location nearest you, plus information on how to make an appointment.
