Most of your data on Facebook is available by simply logging into your account. For example, your timeline contains posts that you have shared along with comments. You can easily see the photos and videos you have posted from your timeline.
There is additional information you cannot see by logging in, such as which ads you have clicked on, and the IP addresses that are logged in with Facebook or have logged into or out of Facebook. This can only be obtained by downloading your Facebook data.
This little-known feature that Facebook offers allows users to download everything from their accounts.
This is the perfect option for backing up your account, creating legal evidence from Facebook for a case, or archiving information if you close an account (such when a user passes away).
Facebook has made downloading your information simple. Just follow these four steps:
- Log into your Facebook account and go to your settings tab. Currently, this is the down arrow on the right side of your Facebook screen.
- Once on the settings page, under your information, you will see”Download your Facebook Data.”
- A new page will appear that allows you to download your information. This is where you can “Download Archive.”
- Once you have confirmed that you want to create an archive (you may have to re-enter your password), Facebook will generate a compressed file with all your data and email you a link to it.
