Do want to know where to focus your social media efforts? Guy Kawasaki, the former chief evangelist at Apple, current adviser at Motorola and author of the recent book APE: Author, Publisher, Entrepreneur: How to Publish a Book, says that the best uses for the four most popular social media services are:

  • Facebook is for connecting. It is best for communicating with people you already have a connection with (e.g., followers of your brand).
  • Twitter is for building your brand and reputation. Increase your visibility and positively affect people’s perceptions of you with regular, quality tweets.
  • Pinterest is for sharing content. Find and share images that will spark your customers’ interests.
  • LinkedIn is for showing your professional chops. Use this professional-focused social media site to prove to other professionals that you are a serious businessperson, an industry influencer and a thought leader.
