Every team has at least one employee who is slow to deliver work. The person almost always is the reason the team falls behind or fails to meet goals. You no doubt will experience problems when you partner energetic employees with the group slowpoke. Ramp up the energy and output of a slowpoke with these tips:
- Go over the ground rules. Clarify and agree upon the team’s objectives and the specific roles and responsibilities you expect individuals to perform. Review team priorities and the deadlines involved in meeting them.
- Put it in writing. To a dedicated slowpoke, ground rules mean very little. So record the rules and have each team member sign the document. The act of signing one’s name can increase involvement and commitment.
- Involve teammates. Employees who drag their feet on everything often need a strong push. Give it to them by updating your system to include team members’ comments on their peers’ performance.
