Fitting the right people into the right jobs makes a huge impact on productivity and morale. Yet some studies indicate that up to 70% of workers are “misemployed,” working in positions for which they aren’t the best-suited employees.

Improve the fit of your workers with these steps:

  1. Define the work. Write thorough job descriptions that define what people must be able to do to succeed in those jobs.
  2. Check personalities. Use personality assessments to determine if people are good matches for the jobs and the organization.
  3. Ask behavioral questions. Discover how job candidates handle situations common to the positions.
