Don’t throw people under the bus. When a problem occurs, avoid pointing fingers. Rather than saying “Melinda was responsible for that,” say, “We all had a part in the mistake. Let’s focus on a solution.” Your employees will greatly appreciate your “We’re in this together” approach and respect you more for it.

When employees do make mistakes, privately discuss the issue with them and provide any necessary coaching so that you can prevent the problem from happening again.
