Do you want to impress your boss? Utter these phrases regularly—and back them up with action—and you will be seen as a star employee:
- “I already took care of it.” When you make a mistake or come across another person’s mistake and quickly act to resolve it, you prove that you are accountable and proactive.
- “I have an idea.” When you put the time and energy into coming up with new ideas that will help the organization, you show that you are committed to the team and that you care about the organization.
- “I have a solution.” Employees complain to their bosses all the time, but if you come to the table with workable, realistic solutions in mind, you take the impetus off the boss to solve the problem. Even if your boss doesn’t accept your solution, it shows that you are creative and take initiative.
- “I can do that.” You shouldn’t take on more work than you can handle. Still, when you volunteer for assignments or willingly offer to help a coworker who is in the weeds, you prove that you are a team player who steps in and does whatever it takes to help the team succeed.
