Conference calls don’t always go smoothly, but they’re an important part of business communication, and knowing how to organize one correctly can help ensure success. Jennifer Hyman Sutton, COO of mobile communication tool Lua, offers these tips to help you do just that.

√ Schedule carefully. Check everyone’s calendar to find the best time.

√ Communicate essential information. See that everyone has the dial-in codes well in advance. Make sure all participants have the materials you’ll be discussing.

√ Call in early. Being a good host sends the message things are under control.

√ Be polite. Interruptions are inevitable on a conference call, so try to yield the floor when you can.

√ Stay focused. It can be tempting to check your email when others are talking, but chances are you’ll miss something.
