More than 2.1 million jobs have been created in Texas since 2000, nearly a third of all jobs created nationwide during that time. Over the last 12 months, 413,000 jobs have been added to the Texas economy.

Financial reporting firm Moody’s Analytics predicts the trend will accelerate, with the number of Texas jobs growing 2.7% annually between now and 2020. That would represent 2.2 million new jobs.

Though much of this job growth is attributable to the energy industry, outgoing Gov. Rick Perry claims the pro-business environment he has fostered in the state deserves much of the credit
