Many people only look at LinkedIn when they start searching for a new job. This is a shame, says Business Insider tech reporter Jillian D’Onfro, who explains that the “social network has become an incredible resource for building your professional identity online, no matter where you are in your career.”
LinkedIn has apps that make connecting with your professional contacts easier than ever. D’Onfro shares a few of her favorites:
• The flagship LinkedIn app lets you sync your calendar so you can see information about people you have appointments with. It also allows you to keep track of companies you’re interested in, apply for jobs and comment or “like” stories being posted.
• The Pulse app is a dedicated LinkedIn news feed. It’s great for staying on top of your particular industry. You can share articles to your own LinkedIn profile or to other social networks from within the app. It also lets you save stories to read later, even if you’re without Wi-Fi. You can download it for iOS and Android.
• The SlideShare app allows you to view presentation slides shared by your connections. You can look at other relevant materials before your own big presentation, for example. The app will give you access to more than 15 million presentations.
• Connected is the app just for networking. It will keep you up-to-date on birthdays, promotions, job changes and other more personal information on your contacts. The app sends you a new list of updates every day.
