Many people can be hesitant at the prospect of blindly emailing a CEO or other powerful person, says management writer and entrepreneur Peter Sims. But CEOs often love to hear from their employees or customers. Sims offers these tips for sending an unsolicited message:

•  Don’t expect a response. The failure rate is significant.

•  Email no more than once every two days. If you have no response after three or four attempts, give up.

•  Write on a weekend. Executives have more time to read email at a computer on weekends. And that’s where they’re most likely to respond.

•  Keep your message concise and relevant. Executives don’t have time for a lengthy read.
