Officials at the St. Louis County (Mo.) Police Academy identified a training need and jumped to address it.

Promising a “fun,” “fast-paced” event, the academy in late September booked a former TV news anchor to teach officers how to deal with the media in the wake of a police shooting.

St. Louis County includes the town of Ferguson, where the August shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown set off weeks of protests and drew widespread media coverage.
