1. GroupMe. An app to make plans through a private group chat. Create new groups and add members so that as your circle expands, so does your GroupMe.

2. Mailbox (only for Gmail). This free app is a superior version of the Mail app pre-installed on the iPhone. You can categorize email with a swipe, sending email to the trash or archives. It also provides a snooze option.

3. Flipboard. The news reader is for anyone who wants to create a customized feed on an iPhone or iPad. it’s easier to “flip” than scroll through top stories.
