Sabrina, one of your newer and younger but better workers, has been absent twice this winter. Neither time did she call to alert you, as the company's "snow day" policy requires. Under the company's unexcused-absences policy, you're now supposed to dock her a day's pay and put a counseling note in her personnel file.
But you don't want to. One reason is that Sabrina will resent the counseling memo, fearing it will kill her chances for an increase or promotion. In addition, she insists both unexcused absences were caused by situations beyond her control, and has begged you to take that into account.
