Are you doing everything you need to as well as you could be? Is anybody? There's almost always room to improve the way you work. And if you involve your team members from the outset in the process of change, it'll be more likely that the team will accept and embrace the outcome.
As well, if you're attempting to redesign and improve your work practices, you'll need to make the most of the expertise of your team members — the people who perform these tasks every day. Here are some pointers for leading your team as it redesigns the way it works:
- Use a "scissors" approach. Trainer and consultant Robert Pater uses this metaphor for an effort that "simultaneously enlists(working) topdown and line workers bottom up. A sharp knife might cut through a sheet of paper, but two edges working together can more easily scissor through."
