Pay tops job security as #1 reason for job satisfaction

For the first time since the pre-recession year of 2007, U.S. employees say compensation is now their No. 1 contributor to their job satisfaction, according to an annual Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) survey.

From 2008 to 2013, pay took a back seat to job security. SHRM says that this means now is a great time for employers to emphasize their overall comp and benefits package—including health care, retirement savings and paid time off—as a way to retain their high-value employees.
