"You know, Rebecca is responsible for the largest share of our business this quarter," your boss Alex tells you. "Her results are nearly twice anyone else's."

You sigh. "I know. But I'm not sure she's ready for a promotion."

Alex looks at you skeptically. "You're just not sure you want to give a promotion to someone who's dating Bob."

Bob is a former team member who's since gone off to start his own business—one that potentially competes with yours. "I'll admit, it makes me crazy," you say. "I mean, we would never hire Bob's girlfriend to work for us at this point. How can I give her a promotion?"

Alex nods. "I admit, if I were Rebecca, I'd feel uncomfortable working here. And I don't know that Bob likes it that much either."
