Are you willing to pay for new hires to relocate? A new survey from careerbuilder.com says one-third of employers have paid relocation expenses in the last two years, with some firms willing to spend more than $10,000 to ensure a top hire takes the job. The numbers match from the employees' side, with 31 percent saying they've been paid to relocate by an employer. About one in seven employers said they were more willing to pay for relocation than they were last year.
The U.S. lags behind Europe and Australia in offering "fully supported flexible work environments"--telecommuting, working from home, etc.--according to a new survey from Dimension Data. Only 55 percent of U.S. employers offered the requisite technology support, compared with more than 75 percent elsewhere. Interestingly, while overseas employers most often cited increasing productivity as the key reason to adopt flex-work, American firms pointed toas the driving factor.
Speaking of retaining workers, a new report from Public/Private Ventures focuses on "concrete tools and low-cost strategies" for increasing retention and decreasing turnover among hourly-wage and entry-level workers.
