Perhaps you've heard the term "servant." By serving your employees, you enhance your stature.
Think like a servant leader by recalling the words of Peter Drucker, theguru. "The leaders who work most effectively never say 'I.' And that's not because they have trained themselves not to say 'I.' They don't think 'I.'" Restrain your ego, look to spread credit to your team and you strengthen your leadership.
At the same time, realize that your employees serve as your eyes and ears throughout the organization. They can lead you by keeping you informed. Cite Dilbert cartoonist Scott Adams' wry comment, "The Seeing Eye Dog does not like to be pushed into traffic by the blind guy."
