Wield power with grace

As a manager, you have power over people. Don’t blow it. Adopt the mentality of a “servant leader” and strive to support your workers’ efforts. Heed the words of French republican leader Alexandre Ledru-Rollin, who reportedly responded to an unruly bloc of radicals after the 1848 revolution by saying, “I am their leader; I must follow them.”

Just be careful you don’t let the power go to your head. Consider former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher’s advice, “Being powerful is like being a lady. If you have to say you are, you aren’t.”
