Doctor’s Rx for happiness: Don’t become a doctor

Nine out of 10 doctors would discourage others from pursuing a career in medicine, according to a survey cited by Dr. Daniela Drake in an essay published in She cites the business pressures most primary-care medical practices face when cramming in up to 24 patients per day (the average visit lasts 12 minutes), plus the paperwork burden of filling out insurance forms.

“Being a doctor has become a miserable and humiliating undertaking,” Drake writes.
