Bottom-line idea: Challenge your staff

in Leaders & Managers,People Management

When employees make assertions without proof, ask for evidence to support their claims (“What’s your back-up?”). When they propose a suggestion to improve the business operation, ask for ways to track its impact (“What’s the measurable result?”). And when they take a certain action that puzzles you, dig to find out why (“What’s your reason?”).

By consistently challenging your staff members to sharpen their analysis, you train them to think with more care and precision.
