Bottom-line idea: Reduce gossip

To reduce gossip among employees, apply a tool that teachers use with children. Instruct individuals to pause before they volunteer their opinions or observations about others and ask themselves, “Is what I’m about to say kind? Is it true? And is it necessary?”

If the comment passes all three tests, then it’s fine for people to share. Otherwise, urge them to stay silent and avoid gossip that can fan flames of discord.
