How to make an employee manual work for you

Every manager should have an up-to-date employee manual on hand that outlines company policies and procedures. It sets the parameters for people to follow and provides a manager with the support needed to push back when procedures and policies are challenged or not followed. When workplace policies are clearly defined in a manual, every employee has the same access to information regarding the rules and expectations of the workplace. This provides the business valuable legal protection if an employee later challenges the business in court.

Make it accessible

The manual should be readily available for reference. Most companies post the document on the company’s intranet, where it can be easily updated. When a new rule is instituted, an email should be sent from human resources or the CEO announcing it.
