Many hotel chains now offer lending programs to help travelers who may have forgotten an item for their trip or who suddenly realize they need a blender to make a breakfast shake, Nancy Trejos writes.
Often guests deliberately leave behind items they may have wanted to pack light and skip baggage fees, says frequent traveler Joyce Gioia, aconsultant in Austin, Texas. Now that choice makes more sense with hotels providing extra items.
At Candlewood Suites, for example, you can borrow small home appliances such as blenders, waffle irons or an electric grill. Hyatt Hotels and Resorts offers yoga mats, razors, curling irons and phone chargers with an option to borrow or buy. The Hyatt in New York’s Union Square even lends out jewelry.
Westin Hotels and Resorts will let you rent a full workout outfit, including shoes, sports bra and socks. The rental costs $5 and the clothes go through the same laundry as the hotel’s linens once they’re returned. The shoes get new removable insoles for each user.
As hotels offer more items for guests to take, borrow or rent, travelers enjoy the convenience of packing light and avoiding baggage fees. It also removes some of the stress associated with forgetting an essential item.
