Governors might think they have a thankless job, but being told that directly can still sting. Gov. Pat McCrory recently found out exactly how thankless the job can be.
A sales clerk approached the governor in an upscale Charlotte grocery store, apparently without recognizing him. Once the clerk knew with whom he was dealing, however, the sparks flew. Following some conversation, the clerk allegedly said, “Thanks for nothing.” Then he walked away.
Stung by the rude remark, McCrory began yelling at the clerk, claiming no customer should be spoken to that way. The store’s owner apparently agreed—and promptly fired the clerk.
The owner later told the press that the firing had nothing to do with the fact that the customer in question was the governor. “It’s not acceptable in any workplace, especially in the service industry, to treat your customers that way,” he said.
The fired clerk did not disagree with Coker’s decision to fire him. Instead he focused his ire on the governor, stating that he found it “shocking” that McCrory “had me excluded from the workplace because I upset his feelings.”
Note: Politics not withstanding, don’t tolerate workers who abuse customers.
