Counting down to a deadline? Use the TODAY() function to automatically tell you how many days until your goal date.

The TODAY() function has no arguments, but still needs the parentheses. This function uses whatever date your computer thinks is today. So if your target date was in A2, in B1 you might have the formula =TODAY()-A2. You can even use Conditional Formatting to make that number turn red or highlight yellow when it is getting close, for example. Click the Conditional Formatting button, Highlight Cells Rules, Less than … and input the number of days you would consider “getting close.”
