Continuing to learn throughout your life keeps you sharp and can enrich your career. To be a great lifelong learner, take these tips from Sharan Merriam, a University of Georgia professor of adult and continuing education.
- Join a community. Community centers and libraries are full of free learning opportunities, such as language classes and book clubs. A local college might also offer lifelong learning courses.
- Learn from experiences. Link what you’re learning with real life. Reading about Roman history can be supplemented with a museum visit. Learn a language by meeting with a friend who speaks it.
- Seek out challenges. The hardest teachers and assignments stick best in your memory because they require analysis. Don’t be afraid to tackle a difficult subject.
