Rolling out SharePoint

Q. We’re rolling out SharePoint. Should we just set up sites by department and let each department set up their subsites?

A. That might be the right answer. And, it might not! The question to ask is not how your organization is structured, but how your organization uses data. A successful implementation might be somewhat based on your organizational structure, but may also facilitate business processes that cross business units. This is a worthwhile whiteboard exercise that begins with the question, “How does money get into the till?” Then, back up from there.
