3 leadership lessons from your mom

by on
in Leaders & Managers,People Management

Mike Figliuolo writes that he gained some of his vast leadership knowledge from his mom. Here are three favorites from the founder and managing director of thoughtLEADERS:

  1. Do things other people like, even if you don’t like them yourself. When you do that for your team, you’re being a good leader and showing them you care.
  2. Show discipline in public, then laugh in private. Sometimes mistakes are funny, but if people are going to learn how to do things right, you may need to discipline them or set them straight. In those cases, stick with stern, then laugh later when they aren’t around.
  3. Share the love, even if it makes others a little uncomfortable. Don’t be afraid to let your team know that you care about them, value their contribution and are happy to work with them. It may seem sappy, but it’s important.
