Today’s job market is mercurial at best. If you want to hold on to your job, make sure you do everything you can to present yourself as a professional at all times. Start by taking these tips from Careerealism’s Dixie Somers.

  • Show up early. View being on time as being late. Starting 10 minutes early will show your employer just how serious you are.
  • Be a team player. Make an effort to cooperate, go the extra mile and avoid making excuses when your work isn’t up to snuff.
  • Set smart boundaries. Be careful about using inappropriate language, telling offensive jokes, airing relationship troubles and sharing financial difficulties.
