You know that kind of day when you accomplish a lot—but not one thing you planned?
Here are some ways to avoid detours:
- Take your emotional temperature before making a decision to see if something unrelated is affecting it. Moods affect our decisions. Ask: “Is anything clouding my judgment?” One way to avoid a purely emotional response is to weigh whether your decision reflects the core values of the organization.
- Zoom out to see more. Ask: “Why did I choose that?” “What am I missing?” “What was my initial plan?”
- Consider the source to see if your judgment is fully warranted. Are you evaluating the right stuff?
