The IRS refused to back off its plans to shut down two key services for tax pros. Both the Disclosure Authorization and Electronic Account Resolution programs for tax return preparers were eliminated, as scheduled, on Aug. 11. Instead of using technologically advanced electronic services, tax pros will have to file paper versions of Forms 2848 and 8821.

The IRS insists the move was necessary and promises a three-day turnaround on the paper filings.
