Money. Title. Advancement. Perks. Power.

Consider whether these are enough to drive your success and satisfaction.

Money is an extrinsic motivator; it won’t sustain performance. Job titles say nothing about real performance or reputation.

Advancement loses its sheen if you stop learning. Forget about perks; they’re far outweighed by the responsibilities of management. And power is only worthwhile if it’s used for good.

Bottom line: Pursue leadership for reasons other than ambition.
